Ghostly International

The record label Ghostly International is giving me good feelings about the world of music right now, it's exactly what a label should be: small, well cared for, and making some great music. It's the home to a whole bunch of amazing electronic musicians like Osborne, Deastro, School of Seven Bells, and Michna. You may have heard of them through the compilation album "Ghostly Swim" which was released for free by Adult Swim on their website a while ago. They have a classy vibe, and are really pushing the envelope in terms of creativity in marketing, and incorporating visual art and graphics into the musical world. You should check out their website at ghostly.com

Check out this great animation from them for a taste. The soundtrack is absolutely dope and features the songs "Triple Chrome Dipped" by Michna and "Night Court" by Mux Mool. There are also quite a few really cool videos on Youtube presenting their artists.

Celebratory Youth

Yesterday we, Feeding Fathers (Ryan, Julien, Nate, Lewis, and myself), made up a concoction of what could possibly be the biggest hit we have so far or the worst song we've wrote or composed.

Yet songs from bands that receive the most loathing and nauseam usually results in practically an explosion from fans.

"It's Really Not That Bad Guys" Julien

"It's Fun! (Said while laughing)" Nance

We'll just continue hyping the hell out of it until we actually record it.

On another note I realized I have a lot more to blog about when I get out and actually have a life, then why do some many of the lifeless have blogs?

What I'm Currently Excited About:
Sonic Youth: The Eternal

When all these come out it will make me a very, very, very happy boy!

Deastro

I am digging this guy Deastro a whole whole lot right now.

This is a straight up bitchin' instrumental powersynth attack. I want this to play evertime I walk into a room.

and this dude has been doing this since he was 12.

Electronic Music in the Rain

So after being abandoned downtown I went on a bit of a stroll down the wet rainy and did I mention windy frigid streets of Asheville I found the perfect companion.

Straight up Swedish electronica which is scene sadly unnoticed (The Knife, Pacific!, El Perro Del Mar, Tough Alliance, Air France, Lo-Fi-Fnk, Embassy, Juvelen, Gentle Touch, and Zeigest just to name a few) in music now, sure it's not only limited to the region of Sweden because Australia, U.K, and Canada do pump out a good electronic act or two.

My lethal ear canal injection of choice was the Junior Boys an Ontario bound duo of two young tech savvy gentleman who make sparse, yet never empty, catchy, but never nauseating, mix of pop, dance, and straight up techno.

There's just some element of synth heavy music that really captures an icy and cold atmosphere. Something that just washes you over in a wave of otherwordlness.

Just listen and find out:

a little bit of wisdom

"The advice I like to give to young artists, or really anybody, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work.

All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens." Chuck Close-Painter, Photographer, Printmaker

Girl Talk

That's me in the first couple of seconds with a t-shirt I made. This is from a while ago but I still think it's pretty damn cool. I'm kind of weirded out by the eating guy though.

Sure is good to be alive

Here's that amazing video I was talking about.

look-alike contest #1

Antony Hegarty and the Albino torturer dude from the princess bride... same person? I think yes. Seriously, though, Antony is such a great person, I shouldn't even make fun.
I feel like I have some catching up to do, since I'm new to this blog deal, so here is a short list of good music i'm enjoying at the moment.

1. Justice-Phantom Pt. 1 (Live Version)

The live version from A Cross The Universe, dey make my head want to es'plode.

2. Andrew Bird-Nyatiti

From the Noble Beast bonus instrumental disk, should be in a Wes Anderson movie

3. Franz Ferdinand-Send Him Away

From the amazing album Tonight-shitdamn it's so good.

4. Beirut-Elephant Gun

A wonderful song, with an equally wonderful music video, check it out.

5. Animal Collective- Brother Sport

Right around 3:15 begins my favorite sliver of music at the moment, had it stuck in my head for days. the whole song is fantastic, but fuck, so is the album.

6. Beach House- Gila

Nater's #1 most hummed song

7. The Wombats- My Curcuitboard City

This song makes me feel so good. This is what popular rock music should be like all the time.

8.King Kahn and The Shrines- Welfare Bread

I'm seeing them March 12th and I'm stoked. Last time King Kahn was in Asheville he apparently kicked a drunk guy in the head.

9. Notorious B.I.G.- Juicy (Pete Rock's Version)

I like this better than the original, surprisingly. Just a little change, but so good.

10. Dr. Dog- The Rabbit, The Bat, And The Reindeer

I really like the recent album, and they're coming to the Grey Eagle next week. Can't wait.

Joanna

This is the beginning of my blog. I'm just gonna post up some stuff that i'm interested in, hope you enjoy.

I am really digging Joanna Newsom right now.

"I killed my dinner with Karate, kick 'em in the face"

fuck yeah, best line ever.

Thanks to my buddy Dylan, I just heard the song "The Book of Right On" today and it blew me away. I can't believe I hadn't heard it before. The harp is also probably my favorite instrument at the moment.

This was on the car ride back from Knoxville, where we saw Antony and The Johnsons. It was a great show, seeing him live is quite an experience.

At one point he just stopped and we sat in silence for at least a minute while he just stared us down. True showmanship.
